hi... i accidentally installed easy cd creator 4 in windows xp..and i know its not compatible. Now i keep getting at start up of windows a message saying the device wont work properly, and it has been disabled. I have tried uninstalling the programme, and deleteing all registry setting to do with easy cd, and adaptec. ANy one know what i can do to totally get rid of it?
thanks in advance

You may have to remove files of these nature from the system folder:
Cdr4vsd.sys
Cdr4dll.dll
Cdral.dll
Cdrtc.dll

You can use the XP Restore feature to restore your system to a time prior to when you installed Easy CD Creator. This should take care of it. You can always undo the Restore, too.

The problem as i beleive it to be is that EasyCD overwrites the file Devldr32.exe (i think thats the name) and obviously its not compatible. So i guess if none of the above fixes work then try some of the following:
(1) Boot up and install it again (if it lets u of course) then log out and go into safe mode and then uninstall it.
(2) See if u can copy it from the XP disk, so u can get the original back (not sure of this will work but when ya deperate you'll try anything!)
(XP is what you make it!)

I did the same thing - installed Easy CD Creator 4 on Windows XP, before I knew that it was not compatible.
Here's how I fixed it - download the free Easy CD Creator 5.1 Basic 90 day trial from Roxio's website. Install the trial, then uninstall. The trial will remove all files associated with Easy CD Creator and clean up the system.

thanks for all the advice, but none works!! in connection with the last comment... i downloaded the version 5 easy cd...then uninstalled it...but i still get that error message....any other suggestions??
thanks

Im having the exact same problem. Can anyone put a link down for that 90 day trial. I've been all over Roxio's website and cant find the thing. This little popup about the drivers is driving me nuts. :-)
Thanks

The trial version is no longer available at Roxio. I'm looking for this version without the trial-message (patch?)

Same thing here ..... if one would know of a patch or upgrade please share. It would make many of us happy campers.

how do you use the restore feature to restore to before you installed cd creator? Do you need to have a backup already made?

I've tried all of the above. None of them work.
Has anyone found a solution? Alun did you find a solution finally?
Thanks

Ladies, Gentlemen,
I resolved it. I am not a computer geek and it took me almost three days to get the solution. Here it is:
First, for those like me, who do not fully understand the distinction between a registry key and a registry value, there is an excellent introduction at: newbieclub.com/rfncopy
As we all know, there is a bug in the EZ CD uninstallation. EZ CD does not remove all the files. It leaves the filter drivers behind in the system and causes the problem even after you ran uninstall. To fully cleanup, you will have to manually remove the drivers. Here are the magical steps to follow:
============
1) remove the files Cdralw2k.sys and Cdr4_2k.sys in \winnt\system32\drivers\
2) remove the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k
3) remove the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2k
4) remove the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\LowerFilter
5) remove the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\UpperFilterHere you are!
Have fun!!
