Comment:

I have a problem with an error message from dwwin.exe when shutting down. The error message concerns "dll initialisation failing due to windows shutdown". I've seen solutions on the web for owners of a gravis game pad, but I don't own one, so not much help to me. Anybody got any ideas?

Disable error reporting from msconfig "services tab" and see if that helps.

David: some more ideas:

1. disable Error Reporting;
open up the Control Panel
in control panel, click on Performance and Maintenance.
then click on System.
then click on the Advanced tab
click on the error reporting button on the bottom of the window.
select Disable error reporting.

2. Evidence Eliminator may cause this error in XP.

"Solution:
After closing all programs at your account, go to the Task manager and look if any program is still running.

At my account it was the agent program from Logitech (looks every week at internet for new updates).
If I kill the process and I log off, NO ERROR message.
And I can repeat the problem (starting up the program and log off).
Killing was not so good solution, so I tried something else.

I changed the priority of the program from normal in below normal and it works!!!

So, I changed with regedit the key for my program (it was started during WinXp start up).
For the start up you can find it in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/software/microsoft/windows/currentVersion/run.

Open the value for your program and add
start \belownormal before the program name,
like start \belownormal C:\program files\...\program.exe."

let us know what worked for you...
