Hi,
I recently uninstalled a burning program.
When I restarted, Windows failed to
detect my DVD-rw drive. The bios can detect
it but Windows does not. I have tried
System Restore (rolling back to a couple
of points) and Windows XP still does not recognize the drive.I have restored to a previous point, but
the drive is not detected. I have restored
to an even previous system point, but
the drive is still not recognized.Device Manager said that the driver
is corrupt or missing. I have tried rollback
on the driver but it did not have a back-up.
Of course I cannot update the drive via
CD-ROM and Windows can't find a better driver
than the one already in there.Hardware Specs:
SSBG1 small form factor (current bios)
Windows XP Home SP2 (up from SP1)
758mb RAM pc2700Drive in question:
Samsung DVD+-R/RW
TS-H552UThanks for your input

i used to have that same problem back then, but its really a easy fix look unistall the drive from device manager after you unistall it windows will detected again as if it was new hardware and will install it. but if windows doesn't see it after you unistall it then open your computer up and disconnect any cables connected to the drive DVD+-R/RW wait like one minute and then connect everything back the same way as it was, then reboot and this time windows will automatically detect the drive and automatically install it for sure.

Hi,
I uninstalled it from Device Manager
and turned off the computer for about
a couple of minutes. I came back
and opened up the computer and disconnected
the parallel cable and the power cable
running from the DVD-rw drive.I left it like that for a couple minutes
while I got a sandwich. I turned on the
computer and made sure that the drive is
still not being detected. It is not.
So I proceeded to turn off the computer
again. Then I disconnected all the external
cables from the computer (power, Ethernet,
mice, keyboard, etc.) and left it for a
minute.I reconnected all the external cables
(power, Ethernet, mice, keyboard, etc.)
and reconnected the parallel and
power cables into the DVD-rw drive.I turned on the computer and windows
detected the driveBUT
it still did not show up on My Computer
and Roxio Easy CD Creator does not recognize
the drive nor does Nero nor anything else
(i.e. it does not exist anywhere apparently).
POST detects the drive but when I came back
to Device Manager, it still brought up
the same problems as before: drive is
not being detected by Windows XP nor any
other program. On another note, I use Alcohol 52% and
my 2 virtual drives disappeared too.
In Device Manager, it is listed as
having a problem. I took off the virtual
drives before I turned off the PC.
Any suggestions?

maybe a reinstall of windows if that doesn't work then you will probably have to do a clean install of windows or the problems are just gona keep on going.
if you have any questions on doing a clean install of windows or a reinstall of windows just write back.

Try this.If you are comfortable editing the registry:
Create a Restore point and back up the registry.Open regedit.
Look for;HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass.
Key name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data:[Delete all value data from upper and lower filters]
Note-Do not delete the key or the multi-string values. Delete only the data values.
Exit regedit and reboot.http://computervitals.com/

Hi,
I have tried to update firmware
of the Samsung TS-H522U us04 because
I thought it might help, but whaddayaknow!
When I tried to run sfdnwin.exe,
it did not detect the DVD-rw drive.
I forgot about that, hehe.Any other suggestions other than
a complete Windows re-install?

It also may be in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass001 or 002 or 003http://computervitals.com/

Hi,
I am not sure what that would do.
I got Code 39.
Said something about drivers
might be missing or corrupted.
I could not rollback the driver
because it did not have a back-up
of it apparently and of course
XP could not find a better one.

Hi,
I could not follow that regedit.
I had
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
but no setControlClass anywhere under that.
I did find the key name {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
under ...\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class
using the above. In the first one of the dozens of
iterations of that key name there areClass REG_SZ

MmSys.Cpl,MediaPropPageProviderIcon REG_SZ

the values for LowerFilter
and UpperFilter?

Hi,
Here's what I did to fix my
Samsung TS-H522U DVD-rw drive:I got the part where I needed to
uninstall Roxio Easy CD Creator.I went into the Registry
by typing "regedit" from Start > Run.I found the keyname
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\
CurrentControlSet\Control\Class.In that keyname, I found LowerFilters,
LowerFilters.Bak, UpperFilters, and
UpperFilters.Bak.I deleted those entries. Rebooted.
Voilá!
The drive is back to being recognized
by Windows XP. I did install Roxio Easy
CD Creator but I had to take it off because
space was limited on my HD. I did not know
that it was the culprit to all of this.I hope this was a huge help to anyone else out there. I thank per and masterjuan
for all of their input. Thank you!
