Have Easy CD creater Basic 5.3.5. (older, but came with this system). Just got a new, NEC 3540 DVD burner without any software at all.
There is one way to record data for DVD through the EasyCD creator. However, when I go through the prescribed steps, Easy CD Creater says "No supported DVD-Recorders were detected on your system."
So now, I can't figure out how to get the drive to be recognized properly by my computer. I searched and found the article ID#: 316529 @ support.microsoft.com, but it did nothing after I went through the steps. Any ideas?

You have to install the DVD codecs for your system to recognize the drive and have the drive work in DVD format.
This is the issue with people giving away hardware without the supported software and/or buying in bulk form without the software.
go here and try the free trial version of "power DVD"
http://www.gocyberlink.com/multi/download/download.html
once installed see if it fixes the issue and then purchase it for the 10 dollars.

Hmm, well, I have PowerDVD, and actually could play a movie on the DVD player [sorry, failed to mention that].
I also recorded a CD-R last night on the player.
But still, when I try to record onto a DVD, it will say "No supported DVD-Recorders were detected on your system." Does that mean that the codecs are installed or...? Any other thoughts or suggestions?

"No supported DVD-Recorders were detected on your system."
That 'probably' means that you need to download an update to your burner program for your drive. Each burner program needs the driver for the drive that it's working with.
