Comment:

My NEC ND-1300 DVDRW+/- drive has stopped recognising R or RW DVDs in the drive only CDRW are acknowledged. If I put a DVD RW or R in and then go to my computer the drive is no longer a DVDRW it shows CD Drive and the disk inside is not recognised at all but one of the DVD RW disk came up saying it was a DVD ROM. My drive has up to now recognised the disks and I have rewritten onto them before. I have tried using new blank RW and R DVDs but they are not recognised either ony CDs. I have the current Firmware and have uninstalled and installed the driver to no avail. I use Roxio and its software is up to date too. Has anyone got any ideas please.

Then click the arrow button.
You can now look through some articles for yourself, to see

I went along to microsofts site and as far as I can make out I need to contact the manuf. which I have done but my computer is 2 1/2years old and whether they will help or not Im not sure. Spyware is not a problem. One thing though I recently installed the new SP2 for Office 2003. Had problems installing it to begin with wonder if that might have any bearings on the failure.

Here are some things you might try:

Clean the lens of the drive.

Physically reinstall the optical drive leaving it configured the same way it is now.

Try the drive in another computer and see if the same behavior is observed.

Replace the drive with a new drive and see if the same behavior is observed.
