Got this used laptop. Replaced hd with new one and installed xp from a dvd. All drivers installed. Will show and play dvds but wont show cd. I've been trying everything I could think of to avoid buying a new drive. If the drive is damaged shouldn't not play anything at all?

Thanks guys ... the last link was useful however it did not help. I may just have to replace the drive since burning cd's is impossible as well .. still open to tips though and I only see on laser lens on here though.

The lense can get dirty from the burning process in addition two laser failure. There are lense cleaning kits available which MAY or may not help.
