Did you try the Device Manager to identify this DVD-ROM?

I finally got the system information to work, it is a QSI DVD-ROM SDR-083. I have checked their website and the company says that it is driverless, and needs none. Therefore their website has no drivers to d/l.

The QSI DVD-ROM SDR-083 is a ROM drive, not a re-writer. No optical drive 'needs' drivers, the OS will install all it needs. Delete it from 'device manager' and reboot; Windows will install the correct drivers.

The DVD-ROM just spins, then it stops. The error message that it gives is "Please insert a disk into Drive D"

Hi, I have no dvd/cd programs on my computer, all i use is windows media player. I'm trying to read a data disk, and windows doesn't detect the cd-r that I have inserted.

Can the DVD-ROM read other discs OK? If it does, something does not sound right with your burned cd-r's.

My DVD-ROM can read (I think) any other non-burned CDs. I just can't read any burned cd.
Is there a fix for it?

Do you have access to another PC? If you do, test read those burned CD-Rs first.

I have a desktop computer, and it can read the cd-r just fine. The cd drive is a 44X CD-ROM drive not a DVD though. So should I just get a new dvd-rom for the laptop? Or does anyone have any other ideas?
