Hi can you help me out?
I got a brand new Toshiba Satellite 1800 series (laptop) running XP, and you know how there's always a bunch of crap software added on new computers.
well, I deleted the Roxio Easy Cd creator software from it because it doesn't have a cd-rw...
needless to say, I think that is the reason why the dvd-rom doesn't read certain cd's. it reads burned audio discs, normal installation discs, but when i burn a couple software programs onto a disc, it can't read it, nor does it open it. it's also not a "bad" disc issue, because i have tried the disc in other computers.
I am using Roxio on my desktop to burn these cd's, and i'm wondering if the Toshiba is not responding to these discs made by Roxio, because I have removed the Roxio from the Toshiba.
Any suggestions? I was told the discs weren't being read because there wasn't an autorun file on the disc.
I can't believe this brand new 'top of the line' computer would not be able to process such a simple task.....

never mind, toshiba tech support helped me out.
FYI, if this happens to anyone else, here is what to do:
Go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager,
click on: ATAPI/IDE devices
Uninstall the secondary controller.
Then reboot. Should now work.
