Hi, I'm having problems burning dvd-r. It worked at first when I installed the new dvd burner. but now it goes through the process as it burn corectly. but what I end up with is a dvd-r that is some how damage. when I try to read the contents of the disk it comes back unreadable (bad sector on disk). but it also burns cd r fine no problem with them. I'm using Plextor dvd burner model 716a and program is roxio easy media creator 7 and the dvd-r media is GQ (great Quality brand). does someone have any Ideas outther.

My guess would be the media. I have had DVD media go "bad" halfway through a spindle. Once a defect starts in the production process it usually exists over a span of many discs. Try another brand and see what happens.
I have switch to only buying quality media (not necessarily with "quality" in the name!) and always having at least two brands on hand.

That Plextor 716a is a phenominal burner; I have one too.I've never had a burner so high quality and reliable as this Plextor.
I am certainly not any expert in this subject, but I don't think you are using a reliable brand of discs. In fact, I have seen that name on two forums that I belong to, as being listed as "garbage media"...and listed in the category of media to not waste your money on.
Please, I am not knocking it as I've never used it, but that is what I read on the forum I belong to and there are quite a few members there who have intense experience with media types and brands. If it is any help to you, I have made many excellent burns with Maxell -R's, and Maxell +R's... both at 4x speed.
Perhaps you are trying to burn at too high a speed and are getting errors?
Also note that the brand you are using is not on the recommended list of media on the Plextor website. Did you review their list of recommended media? They highly recommend Maxell, but you will also have good luck with Taiyo Uden or Verbatim too.You might want to try better media... Have you also updated your Plextor 716a with the newest firmware upgrades from the Plextor website? And, if you run your media through Plextools, you can determine how well your burns are coming out. You can tell wether your laser is burning at the proper angle; tons of stuff to learn there.... Have you tried that too?
Good luck; hope this helps you out a bit..
That 716a is an excellent burner; expensive, but worth it.~Tommyo

I agree completely with all of the above. I would suggest going to the Plextor site and see if they have a recommendation on disc brands to use with their burners. (Even some brand name discs can be problematic for some brands of burners)
Buy one the approved brands, then try again.
