DVD//CD-RW won't read DVDs

My dvd//cd-rw drive will not read dvds. my dvd burner which is an hp writer 740b won't read ANYTHNG. these are too seperate drives. i can't find firmware or drivers for either of them, so any ideas?

First step- clean both drives. When did they stop working? Do they try to read the disc? (Light blink) Does windows see both drives? Does BIOS see both drives? Perhaps a chipset issue- look at Comqap website for updates for your computer. Firmwire update is typcially a last resort so try above first.
