In trying to burn files/pictures onto my CD or DVD drive, I am always now getting . . . "Please insert disk into drive E: or(D:)". When I right click on the drive in My Computer, same message appears. Any ideas or advice??
Thanks so much
tlw

One presumes the drives in question are burners and not just ROM drives and you can no longer burn using them. What software are you using to burn? have you made any other recent changes or installed any new software recently that may have caused the problem?
Have you tried using System Restore to a point before the problem began?
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

This seems like the same problem as here:

Try a Laser Head Cleaning CD. It is a
CD that has tiny brushes on it that cleans your
drive head. Also dust collects inside computers, and can cause hardware damage.
Dust collects inside computers--Should you worry?
Read the bottom of that page.

If you are comfortable editing the registry:
Create a Restore point and back up the registry.Open regedit.
Look for;HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass.
Key name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data:[Delete all value data from upper and lower filters]
Note-Do not delete the key or the multi-string values. Delete only the data values.
You may have more than one entry.Exit regedit and reboot.

Hi all--
I thought I had posted back, thanking all of you for your advice, but I didn't do it right. Let's see if I can remember what I wrote . . .
Richard59, sorry, yes, they are burners. And I was just using XP's 'copy' and burn program. You had very good advice. I used Nero and it worked. I'm not too bright, I'm realizing. But it still is puzzling why these messages show up when I right click on the drive, to go Properties and it says there is no disk in the drive. Confusing. . .
Yes, I did a system restore, but it didn't improve the situation. And I have removed any recently installed software. Thanks again.
Doschap, thanks for directing me to that posting. I did a search for this subject, but couldn't find one that fit my problem.
Chuck 2, that is a really good idea. I'll check into it right away. And the link about dust. Just good sense.
And per, if none of these things get the things to working right, I'll try not to be intimidated by the registry and take a stab at tweaking it.
Thank you all!
