my cd/dvd drives wont auto detect, i have the autodetsct enabled, it was working fine but suddenly decided not to . is there another setting i should now about to change

Can you see them in the BIOS? What does Disk Management show?
What happens if you put a CD or DVD in the drive?
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

I assume you mean CDs or DVDS that should autorun - load software when you insert them (have an autorun.inf file in the root folder) - aren't doing that anymore, but the drives are otherwise being detected in Windows and work fine.
That can be hard to troubleshoot.
- Did you install CD or CD/DVD burning software since they last loaded properly? Some of those will disable autorun when you install them. Programs like Easy CD Creator ,Direct CD ,Clone CD ,and various others they have features to dissable/enable CD Autorun/Autoplay.
More examples - Nero's InCD, other Nero products.
I found that if you have a Nero product installed and you don't need to use InCD, some on the web got Autorun to work again by un-installing the InCd component in Add/Remove programs.
If that's your case, look in the program to see if there is a setting to turn on Autorun or Autoplay.
- some versions of the Microsoft Office suite disable Autorun. Uninstalling the suite restores it. If you installed one of those, look in the program to see if there is a setting to turn on Autorun.
- you could try Microsoft's fix.
Go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...
and download the AutoPlay Repair Wizard. Run it for each CD/DVD drive.
- if none of the above helps, there are keys in the Registry you can delete, but try the above first.
