My roommate has a new Sony VIAO desktop computer with a dvd/cd drive running on windows XP. The problem is..the drive doesn't want to recognize a blank disc for whatever reason. It just spins n spins and after a few minutes..it stops. grrr! I tried a few different cd programs like (roxio, nero etc) and I can't even make audio cd's. If anyone reading this is familiar with this kind of problem..and can offer any advice of any kind..it would be grrrrreatly appreciated. =)

Maybe you misposted, but if that's really what it is (a DVD/CD) then that's your problem. It's not a DVD/CD-RW.

If it is a CD-RW, you may need Roxio's update patch for it to be recognized. If it's still no go, the info here may be of some use to you.
