Hi, everyone!
I have a question regarding my HP dvd writer and a program called 'dumprep.exe'.
I have an HP dvd writer dvd200i internally installed on my computer. Whenever I put in a CD-R, a program called 'dumprep.exe' starts up and my computer starts running very slowly. Actually, to be specific, I noticed my computer running slowly and I used task manager to find the dumprep.exe noted. When dumprep.exe is running it uses 133,836k of memory. So, I stop the process and go about my business writing onto the CD-R. My question is why is this dumprep.exe starting up and why does it use up so much memory?
Thanks for your help!

get this little baby and disable dumprep safely.

usage: unzip the file into a folder of your choice, run AUTORUNS.exe (no installation, very sympatico :-) ... once it's fnished the initial scan, hit the 'binocular' button and search for dumprep. uncheck the box and restart.

Dumprep seems to be a legitimate Microsoft utility. It apparently comes up when there is a system error and does some preparatory work before dumping memory for MS technicians to inspect.
You might be getting errors trying to read CDs, that is causing it to start up. The drive might need cleaning. By the way, dual DVD/CD drives use different lasers for CDs than they do for DVDs.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Ham 30,
Thanks for the reply! Thanks to all of you in fact.
Yes, I do know dumprep.exe is a legitmate piece of software. However, I am finding that is is using 100% of my CPU. The fan starts up because of the CPU overworking. I added a new external DVD driver today. But, the same problem occurred when writing to a new DVD-R with the new writer as well. So, it is not a problem with a dirty DVD writer. This just started happening after doing a check disk scan about a week or so ago.
