Check your sound options in Nero Showtime and see what type of sound format it's trying to play. Change it to Dolby Digital 2.0 and see if that helps. Is it safe to assume this is a store bought conventional movie DVD?

If you installed the DVD drive then make sure that you ran the Sound card's lead to the DVD drive.

You do not have to install the separate sound cable. But then you have to activate the digital capabilities of your player.

If you are using WMP, then go to Options, Devices, DVD drive properties. There you will see Use Digital or Analog. Put a checkmark in Digital option and O.K. out thru all open windows. This way you will be able to transmit the sound thru the IDE cable and not thru the separate 3-wire sound cable.

Happy New Year to all.
