I am trying to fix a gateway laptop 3 months old. dvd's will not play, apparently did initially but will not play now. I reloaded all video graphic dirvers and downloaded latest firmware.
windlows media player will not start. did every google fix i could find.
i put in a movie with a video program and tried to play: message is:
cannot render video check graphics drivers for latest DirectX. I tried this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92A3&displaylang=en
did not work.

Is this just a bad video card? Thanks.

What software DVD (not WMP) decoder are you using?

Download and try VideoLAN and set your resolution at 800 X 600 and see what happens
