DVD Sound Problem

I am having trouble with my DVD sound. I recently was not getting any sound when playing DVD's but downloaded an AC3 audio codec and can now hear sound but it is very quiet. I have tried adjusting my volume controls and they all seem to be turned up and not muted. Is there another codec that I should download or are there any suggestions to what I should do? Thank You, Laptop Man.

I had something like that
there were no sound then I tried a codec pack called: K-Lite Codec Pack
but I'm not sure if this will solve your problem but you've nothing to lose try

Codec packs are the devil. Increase the gain on your AC3 filter.

Thank You very much Eye Ball and tropic for your help. I installed the link e7.edskes.com/klcodec234f.exe that eye ball had recommended and with tropics advice about the adjusting the gain made it much easier to set it up. Thanks guys. Keep up the good work!! Laptop Man :)
