DVD Sound Problem

When playing a dvd on either windows media player or real player there is no sound but the video is perfect. When i play a cd however, there is sound. I have tried to adjust volume controls but this doesn't seem to be the problem. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling these two programs but there was success. Please help me if you can.
