I just tried to play a DVD in Windows Media Player like I always do, but it's not working. I keep getting this error: Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. Also, when I try to run my DVD Ripper I get this error:
Unable to read from E:\VIDEO_TS\vts_01_1.vob
Driver may not be unlocked.
And I also have PowerDVD and when I try to play DVDs it says:
Error Code: 80040216
An object or name was not found.I tried restarting my computer and I checked the driver and it says that it is functioning properly and that the device is enabled. It plays CDs and CD-RWs fine. What could have happened? Everything was working fine a few days ago when I played them.

I never have any luck with WMP unless it's content it finds.
I'd toss it and get a real media player.
Sounds like you need to reinstall your codecs. Try reinstalling the drivers for your DVD ROM.

Okay, I tried reinstalling it using Compaq Help and Support Center and it got about half way and then I got this error:
Unable to run the test. Device not found on the system! Then I clicked OK and then it finished. I tried playing a DVD and I got the same results.

Hi Kelly,
What model compaq do you have?
And look in device manager and get exactly what it says is your dvd rom. Model, brand version.

Hi, I have LTC-48 on Acer P4, i would say run a system restore, it should do the trick. of course you will have to reinstall burning software/power DVD etc.
