I just tried to play a DVD in Windows Media Player like I always do, but it's not working. I keep getting this error: Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. Also, when I try to run my DVD Ripper I get this error:
Unable to read from E:\VIDEO_TS\vts_01_1.vob
Driver may not be unlocked.
And I also have PowerDVD and when I try to play DVDs it says:
Error Code: 80040216
An object or name was not found.

I tried restarting my computer and I checked the driver and it says that it is functioning properly and that the device is enabled. It plays CDs and CD-RWs fine. What could have happened? Everything was working fine a few days ago when I played them.

I never have any luck with WMP unless it's content it finds.

I'd toss it and get a real media player.

Sounds like you need to reinstall your codecs. Try reinstalling the drivers for your DVD ROM.

Okay, I tried reinstalling it using Compaq Help and Support Center and it got about half way and then I got this error:
Unable to run the test. Device not found on the system! Then I clicked OK and then it finished. I tried playing a DVD and I got the same results.

Hi, I have LTC-48 on Acer P4, i would say run a system restore, it should do the trick. of course you will have to reinstall burning software/power DVD etc.
