Hi everyone,I recently bought a new computer- Dell- and among the drives I got a Philips DVD+RW recorder drive. The problem is I cant record onto a Memorex 8x dvd-r disc using Sonic or Nero software.Even with a blank disc in the drive, when I click on Burn a screen pops up saying--Please insert a blank or recordable disc into the Philips DVD-RW9 (E:) drive-- ! I assummed you could record onto a dvd-r disc and dvd+rw disc with same burner with the caveat being the R disc is only able to be burned once.I live in a small town on an island and there aren't any DVD+RW blank discs in town so I can't test one without ordering a bunch.Thanx!

If your burner is really DVD+RW, then DVD+R discs are the one you should use. DVD-R will not work on DVD+RW drive.

The dual layer drive you have will only burn DVD+R /+RW disks - '-' & '+' are different formats, like betamax & vhs. Also I would not recommend Memorex as a brand. Dual layer disks are expensive, but you can try it out with cheaper disks - both 'Melody' & 'Orange label' work well for me, Also remember it will record to normal CDR+ disks as well, just for music/data.

What's wrong with memorex dvd+r's? I have used them exclusively on my ancient NEC 2.4x dvd burner for a long time. I have copied dvd movies and backed up at least 100gig of data and never had a bad burn yet!

I too have a new computer but is a Compaq from HP. I have been having the problem of my RecordNow by Sonic not reconizing that I have a disk in the drive. I don't have the DVD+RW. I have the DVD and CD-R/RW

I ran across this article and I'm thinking maybe we might just need to get all of the updates to make it work. Look at number 9 on this page.

Thanx everyone! I should have done some research before ordering the DVD-R discs.I guess I have 75 coasters already:)Actually Im sure I can give them away to someone in town. Also Chad I took Johnr's comment on Memorex as a suggestion to me to try a cheaper brand to make sure my burner works before buying a more expensive brand like Memorex.I didnt read it as a disrespect to Memorex.I have never had a problem with Memorex CD-R's.Tammy I will read article before ordering DVD+RW discs.Again Thanx everyone for fast responses!Take care.
