Comment:

I have installed an Artec 16X DVD-Rom drive. I am able to play DVD's with no trouble, but if I attempt to open my mail or something like that the DVD playback starts hesitating and jumping. Is there something I can do to correct this? I am running the following:

Windows XP Pro
AMD Athlon 1.4 Ghz
640 MB SDRAM memory
DVD-Rom is the master of the 2 CD-ROM's (other is a burner)

What type of Video card? That could be slowing you down...

Digital Images and playback are very CPU intensive.

Running other applications will cause 'interrupts' to the video processing which you 'see' as jerky playback.

A faster CPU, Higher Capacity Video Card with more memory and mre system memory might help. But then it would also be cheaper to buy a DVD player and watch the movie on the TV set!

Otherwise enjoy the movie and wait for email till after the movie is finished.
