For some reason, my DVD playback is really bad and pixilated. This has never happened before. Could this be a problem with my graphics card? I have NVidia 64. My games and VCD plaback are absolutely fine. I have reformatted and have tried it on Win ME, but it is still bad. I have tried different DVDs, but they are all the same. Help.

Yes, I believe so. I don't use Media Player to play DVDs. I use Power DVD or Zoom Player. However, everything worked fine with the same O/S until recently. Even after formatting, I have the same problem, which makes me think it is a hardware issue...

well..i used to use power dvd for playing dvd's untill i had problems with it and i switched to win dvd . but i do use media player for dvd sometimes. try the nvidia 30.82 driver to start. i read that it is the best nvidia driver.

Thanks for your help. I did download a new NVidia Detonator driver, but I don't think it was that version. I will try downloading that tonight. Thanks again.

Hi there. Got home and changed the refresh rate - hey presto! It worked! HOWEVER, I reformatted and installed everything again as I needed to. Tried the same method, but the dvd playback has gone back to being bad! :-(
I did get windows telling me that my dvd decoder needed upgrading (why would it be a problem now, when it wasn't before).

Maybe you have the same problem I do?
See: my DVD was a happy device until I upgraded to XP, the reason: XP wonŽt let it use DMA hence, the playback has droped down to 1x! AND thereŽs no way to change this setting from hardware manager.
BTW updating to SP1 doesnŽt solve the problem nor updating IDE drivers.
I have a Sony DDU1621, IŽm searching the web for a more technical solution (ie: editing some registry keys)IŽll let you know if I find a cure for this illness.

Hi there. Well, everything was fine until two weeks ago. It worked fine with XP and uses DMA. It can't be a hardware issue, but I am at the end of my tether trying to work out why it won't work. I formatted and tried it with Win ME and STILL it doesn't work, even though it was fine with ME and XP before.
I had the same problem as you with another computer. Formatting solved it, so you may want to try that...
I will let you know if I sort this out.

Guess what? I took out the DVD player and booted. Then, replaced and booted. It works so much better, although every now and then it will be choppy. Haven't got rid of it completely, but it is heaps better. Hope this helps with yours....
