Just installeed xp pro on a friends older pc as he can't afford a new one. There's two cd's on this machine a Creative labs and an LG GDR 8161B DVD, the Creative one works great the other...not.
It'll show up on the device manager and my computer, it's getting power, I've updated the pc's bios as well as the DVD's if I insert a disk it'll flash up and say 'please insert disk' after freezing for 1 minute ±. I've even installed an older burner I had in place of the DVD and it won't regognize that neither. I've changed each from master to slave, changed the position on the ribbon cable. Any one got any ideas?....Mike

If you are familiar with DOS, a way to further isolate the cause would be to try to access the drive from a DOS environment.

You'd need a bootable media to do that.
