dvd drive shows empty when dvd is in

Specs: Windows XP

I have a lightscribe dvd writer/cd writer.when I insert a dvd it show the drive is empty? cds work fine. Please help.
I have nero so I can copy dvds but they are not recognized by the drive. Help

Make sure Device Manager is error free.
