When I would burn DVDs, I could do stuff in the background. THe computer would obviously go a bit slower, but it wasn't a big deal. Now when I burn DVDs, no matter the program i use, it slows the computer a LOT. The hard drive light stays lit and I can't do anything. It does come out with a good burn, but I can't use the computer until it's done. In fact, the sound is even a little distorted because the computer is running so slow. I've tried setting it to low priority, that didn't help at all.
Have you tried to defragment your HDD?... also, if you wanted, you could try to reinstall your burner software... on the other end... do you have a lot of icons by your clock?... those mean a program is running and using resources. You could try the ol', ALT-CTRL-DELETE and close programs you're not using.
