dvd drive problem

CPU/Ram: amd athlon 2600 + 512mb

hi, just wondering if anyone could help!
my dvd drives have both decided to not recognise cd-r'd but only when they are blank. when i put one into the drive and go the my cmputer to load it, a message syaing please insert a disc comes up. i tried the drives with dvd's, cd-rw's cd-r's with data and cd-r's without and it only does this for the blank cd-r's.!! any ideas

Try this.
Create a Restore point and back up the registry.Open regedit.
Look for;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\CurrentControlSet\SetControlClass.
Key name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data:[Delete all value data from upper and lower filters]
Note-Do not delete the key or the multi-string values. Delete only the data values.
Exit regedit and reboot.
