dvd drive not detected in windows XP

Specs: windows XP
i just installed a new DVD drive into my XP machine but cant be detected in my computer. though its seen in the BIOS and in the device manager but with an exclamation mark. Upper and lower filters are not in my registry so i cant delete it. microsoft says should upgrade to SP3 before microsoft fix can be run on my system. pls does anyone know any other solution i can use.

i have updated the system to SP 3 but the CD Drive is still no working. also i ran the fix posted above and yet not working. pls, any other solution will be helpful. tanx you all.

Have you tried to remove the listing for the drive in Device Manager and then rebooting?

Is the new drive IDE or SATA? If IDE, is it connected to a cable with another drive on it?
