for some reason my dvd drive (Mathita SR 8583A) doesn't detect or read my CDR's, it tells me to insert disc but the disc is already inside the drive. the cdrs run fine in my SONY CRX0811 CDRW Drive and in my friend's pc which runs Windows ME, I upgraded the firmware but the problem remains. has anyone have this happen too? any ideas?

Common problem with DVD drives. Mostly
on win2k and XP but I have it on 98
Sometimes it pushes out the cd-rom and
I put it back in and it is fine and
sometime it keeps pusjing it oout. Must
be low cost DVD drives. I only paid about
$60 a yr ago. COurse I got the 3yr no
question warranty. SO I will take it
back in another year. Still plays dvds
great.

Good Luck.

Hello All, I am having a similar problem. It is driving me crazy. I have a mats---a Dvd-Rom SR-8586. I recently reinstalled XP because my computer crashed so bad that I couldnt recover and had to format and reinstall XP. And since then I havent been able to play some DVD's. I didnt have a problem before. I have xp professional 2600. And using PowerDVD 4.0 to play dvd's Now I have only got 2 dvd's to work out of 6 of them. If I put in a dvd it just says there is no disk in the drive. The drive plays audio cd's and data cd's and cdr's. It wont read cdrw disks either. I have never ran into a problem like this so I am hoping somebody out there has found a fix. I have a cdrw drive and it works perfectly. I have them both on the same IDE cable. dvd as master and cdrw as slave. Hope someone can help. Thanks!
