Well i have these two devices in my pc. creative cd-rw rw8435E creative dvd-rom dvd1241E Xp was installed on my pc aroung 1yr ago. Suddenly these 2 drives aren't showing up in my computer or device manager. Well actually sometimes they do show up and disappear again. This is very frustrating. When drives are invisible i can't burn a cd and can't watch a dvd. When they are visible (and that's very rare lately) they work fine. I tried changing the software i use to burn cds fron easy cd creator to nero but in vein. have tried many other things which friends of mine told me but in vein. PLS HELP!!!

Open case and make sure there are no loose cables linking all these devices to the mobo. If that doesn't work, you may have some settings wrong for Master/Slave on the CD/DVD drives, or your mobo may be fried? Check your jumper settings, your BIOS, and your cables. Just a thought?

there are no loose cables. How do i check the settings for Master/Slave on the CD/DVD drives? It's very strange. When i put on the computer few minutes ago the cd-rw and dvd drivers where present. After 7 minutes.... abra cadabra... they vanished!!

Some one suggested i disconnect the dvd drive from the mother board, and the cdrw worked fine. then i disconnected the cdrw and connected the dvd drive and it worked fine. They work fine without the other. What is the problem??

sometimes dvd and dvdr drives do not show up on my system, and sometimes they do. Other times my d: does not show up. The IDE have been checked and working. What else could be the problem? Was fine like this for over 12 months then just started to happen.
