Hi,
I tried playing a DVD on my Sony DRU800A and the following message appeared. I have Nero 9 and thought that it would play the DVD. I lost the original disk that came with the drive and Sony's storage website doesn't have it for download. What is a DVD decoder?
Thanks for your help.
Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

You need DVD playback software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD. You can get the commercial trials from here:
http://www.filehippo.com/software/dvd/
Or you can try one of the free open source players such as VLC, MPlayer, Media Player Classic:

Hi,
I tried VLC and it worked on one DVD but other DVD's played but there were blotches all over the video. I tried using Nero Show Time, but I get a message that says, The application requires DirectDraw Acceleration, which is not available in your system. Please enable it in 'DirectX Diagnostic Tool' (dxdiag.exe) in the tad 'Display'. How do I enable this? I tried finding the tool but can't find it.
Thanks,
Veets
