I recently had my hard drive wiped and had Windows XP and all of my software re-installed due to a virus ( I now use norton). But since then, i haven't been able to play my DVD's.
I get a message that says that it is unable to detect my DVD Decoder (i used PC friendly that came with the movie) and so i thought i'd just use WMP. But that won't recognize any Decoder either.
One time i had the DVD tab in my options and a few moments later when i went back, it wasn't there.
I'm not sure what to do, I looked through microsoft stupport and downloaded an update but that didnt work either cuz it said my computer didn't need it.

Windows XP does not ship with DVD decoder codec, but if you install some software that does (WinDVD, PowerDVD) then WMP player can use that and it will work. So at some stage before you must have installed some sort of software DVD player on your PC that installed the codec which allowed it to play before. Not sure if PC Friendly could have done it but maybe.
