hi, i've got a dvd burner installed on my comp and a second cd rom drive. do i need another just plain dvd drive to copy dvds for backup purposes?

No, your DVD burner is sufficient as long as you have enough free HD space to let the burning software copy to. A little slower, though, than copying on the fly. Also beware of getting too many peripherals installed for your power supply to handle. Many XP users are finding this to be a concern depending on your system.
