dvd burner wont read my audio cds

What is the make and model of the drive? Some drives have a hard time reading all types of media, it depends both on the quality of media and the drive. Check to make sure all the drivers are installed, although I doubt this would change anything.

It could be that the drive is defective, even though it's able to read DVD discs. The 'CD' circuits/laser in the drive might have failed. That is not uncommon.
