I have a LG DVD burner that is 18 months old and now wont read any cds of DVDs any more. It has only burnt about 2 dozen DVDs. Should I just through it away or is there a way to fix it.

Have you checked the software program that you use to watch dvd's for any corruption, or used another program to watch dvd's? Have you trouble shooted the drive using the hardware and device manager in My Computer? Have you checked to see if the ide or power cables are secure in their slots? Finally, have you tried using it in another computer?

I think you'd better buy new DVD burner, as I'm not sure that it's possible to fix. Some times ago I met such problem and I bought new one, it was too expensive to fix.
