CPU/Ram: Intl P4 1.80GHz 256MB RAM

I get audio errors when trying to play DVDs.
Like i got two dvd players,NVIDIA NVDVD and InterActual Player. On NVDVD, i get an error message that says 'Unable to connect to audio device' and the other player i get 'Playback failed due to an error with the audio subsystem.' I have reinstalled my sound device and that didn't work. I have a Compaq DVD-ROM SD-612B. How do i correct this.
