Dual OS and wireless keyboard

WinXP allows dual OS and controls it by a file bootup.ini. It works fine until I changed to a MS wireless keyboard. When the OS manu pops up I cannot use the keyboard to make the selection because the system is not up yet and cannot communicate with the keyboard. How to get this over?

This begs the question. If you have a wireless keyboard that isn't operational til the OS is booted, how do you get into the BIOS to configure it? How do you select Safe mode if you should ever need it? How would you re-install the OS if you ever needed to?
I suspect that the computer end of the wireless link is plugged into the USB. In which case you need to configure the BIOS to use a USB keyboard. To do that you will first need a standard keyboard. If the BIOS cannot be configured to use a USB keyboard then you are stuffed.

Stuart, you are correct. I can't do any of the things you mentioned and got stuffed now. I installed OS and other application before switching to this wirelss keyboard. Should I want to re-config the machine, I need a standard keyboard. The one I'm using is the MS combo using USB to connect mouse but PS/2 connecting keyboard. I therefore think config BIOS may not solve it. When I plug this new keyboard I need not install any software>
