Dual monitor resolution

so i just go this laptop and i love it. and i just figured out i can run dual monitors. so im stocked. only problem is the secondary monitor maxes out at 1360x768@@60hz. but i cant even get that out of it right now. in fact i just put it to 1024x768 cause thats the higehest it can work on. btw it is a HD samsung tv with VGA input. any ideas? i was so stoked up until like now.

It all depends on the laptop video chipset. Quoted:

A lot of laptops have a VGA port for an external monitor, and by default the external monitor will show the same image as the built-in monitor. If the laptop has a video chipset with multi-monitor support (and the necessary drivers), you can choose to use the external monitor as a second monitor instead of a mirror of the built-in monitor.

this laptop is a HP DV8000. AMD turion64 1.8ghz 512mb of ram

ATI Radeon xpress 200m

as for showing the same thing, no. i can open a window and move it to the seconday monitor. but like im saying the secondary monitor wont take the resolution it is supposed to.

i'm using my wee Eee PC with all sorts of monitors and TVs ... even 1920x1200 on external displays is no problem for the rather poor Intel GMA 915
