Comment:

I've just added a second monitor to my computer above my current monitor. I want to be able to use it when I am, for example, copying text from a web site to a word document (having 1 program open on each monitor). The rest of the time I want it to be out of the way.

As it is currently set up, when I open a program, it fills both screens. Or when I open the start menu it spans to both monitors.

I want to be able to have my main (bottom) monitor be used as a single monitor 99% of the time. When applications open, they maximize to this monitor, menu's adjust to fit in this one monitor, etc. I want to behave just as if I have only one monitor, with the exception that I can manually drag windows or programs between monitors.

Is there a easy software solution for this?

MultiMon (Now UltraMon) {Multi-monitor management utility} What's the use of having another monitor attached to your PC? Beyond novelty, it immediately doubles the size of your Desktop. Some apps aren't multi-monitor friendly, however (especially certain screen savers). With this add-on, you'll instantly be able to: maximize the current window to all monitors, enable/disable your additional monitor(s), and blacken the other screen(s) when your screen saver runs.
