Hi,
Just set up a dual boot machine with win 98 SE and XP Pro.
I put in a partition and put 98 on the C: Drive and XP on the D: Drive.
The 98 gets the updates from microsoft just fine but the XP wont get any???
Is it because as a default they down load to C: and not just where the OS is installed??
If so how do i D/L them??
BTW it is a Legal virsion of XP, Just in case you were thinking other wise ..
Gotta run ,Thanx in advance

Are the drives on the same disk and just different partitions?
I'd highly suggest being on different drives. Install 98 First on the slave and XP on the master and XP will set up everything for you! (Same with NT)

What actually happens, do the updates download and not install or what? BTW, It doesn't matter what OSes you have and where, as the updates get downloaded to the root of the same drive as the system you are currently runing in a folder called WUTemp. Eg. for XP, it will download them to D:\WUTemp, install them, and then delete them. It may pay to try to get the updates off the corporate site at: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp?corporate=true This site allows you to choose where to download the updates to and when to install them.

Hi,
Bak agian ..ok yes i only have one HDD , i put a 2.5 gig partition in it and put 98 on the C0: and XP on the D:.
What happenes is I hit the Install now button (or whatever it says )then go agree, the box openes, the D/L starts and then after the bar strts turning blue (as the updates are downloaded),The box dissapears and the screed with all the red writting appears with a cross beside all the updates i was trying to D/L saying failed....
Any other suggestions???
I tried other D/L from the site instead of SP1 but NO, Nothing with install???
OK ill try what matt says..ohh BTW there was nothink to say why they wouldent install or down load either ..just failed...but yes it did start and it stopes and gives me the screen after only a few minutes ...not hours and hours or any think ...

Me again,
Just incase anybody was wondering, I got it to install....
All i did was ran disk clean up, Defraged the D: drive,And turned the XP fire wall off...
Although i think it was the defrag that did the trick..
Maybee a lesson here for later ...
Ok once again thanks again guys and gurl ..as allways realy apreaciated ...
