Ok. So here is an intresting one.

I have a computer currently booting XP. It is a Pentium Mobile 1.4 gig. It is packing 1.5 gig or ram and 30 gig HDD -- I have Protools 7.0(an audio program by Digidesign) running on the XP version. There is a version called Protools Free, which is technically 5.0, that you can download for free. It limits features, but I will be able to use my 5.0 plugins for it.

It HAS to install using Windows 98. Is there are way to trick the installer into thinking there is Windows 98? If not, can 98 and XP be configured to dual boot?!

Thanks!
scott

You can set up your PC to dual-boot Win XP and Win 98. I assume that you are planning to use ProTools Free while booted into Win 98.

you can configure it to dual boot. Normally the oldest OS should be installed first.

I would not recommend trying the dualboot option for the sake of running a free download prog. you risk losing your current setup if you try.
"Compatibility Mode" is accessed as follows"
Rightclick on the downloaded .exe and select Properties. Then go to Compatibility menu and tick the box to run in compatibility mode. select the appropriate OS from the dropdown menu.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Suggest you do a few things. First do a full backup and then attempt your installs.

You may (as above) use compatibiltiy mode to both the installer and the program and get it to work.

You would be much better off using MS's virutalPC before you tried a dual boot. VPC is free and is stable for MS products.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
