However when i run the 2000 server CD i get a message telling me that it has detected a different vesion of windows and that the setup utility has been disabled. How do I 1)get 2000 server to install 2)get the 2 OS's to dual boot

You need to boot directly from the CD. You may have to change your BIOS to boot from the CD before the Hard Drive. Be warned also...there are precautions you need to take when installing 2000 after XP, which directly relates to 2000 overwriting the XP boot record and then not recognizing XP.

Hi Skip...
The standard procedure is to install the oldest OS first, then the newest. However, let's see what we can do.
Pull the power cable to your XP drive, leaving the formatted drive cable connected. Now it is virutally impossible for your XP installation to be damaged.
Go into your BIOS and set CD to first boot. Reboot. Hopefully your BIOS will detect the freshly formatted HD, your 2000 Server system CD will boot, and you are on your way.
After installation, re-attach your power cable to the XP HD and reboot. From here I am not sure what the BIOS will do with drive letters, but I am sure that it's nothing that can't be worked around if there is a problem.
