Specs: Windows XP
hello there, I would like to dual boot a copy of
something like ubuntu and my currently existing
copy of XP. Any help on the topic would be
useful, and going into intense detail would be
really appreciated.

There's several different ways of doing it.

1. just run Ubuntu directly off the CD.
2. use WUBI to install Ubuntu
3.install VirtualBox or M$ Virtual PC & run Ubuntu in a virutal machine
4. do a complete install of Ubuntu on a separate partition or separate HDD.

You would be better off using a virtual machine or bootable usb flash.

If you insist learn how to recover MBR.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10
