No sound when booting from XP. Application grab .mp3s and .wavs and appear to play them, but there is no sound. Device manager looks fine, I downloaded the xp drivers from Creative (card is an SB Live Value) and installed them. In appearance, everything looks great ... but no darn sound ;>{ No output; is this a cable and jack issue?

I'd try to reseat the card in its PCI slot, or change to an alternate slot then reinstall the drivers.

Perhaps you should wait for other suggestions before trying this as a last resort.

Good luck.

I hate this board, no edit feature *sigh*

Anyways, I forgot you dualbooted (and I suspect 98 has no sound problems). If 98 has sound, disregard everything I said.

Sorry about that.

Thanks, fanatic, for your replies. I was able to do a bit more research and came across the fix:

"This issue can occur because of an incompatibility between the playback configurations of the sound card driver and the settings in the Windows XP volume controls; you can configure both the sound card software and the Windows XP volume controls to use either analog output or digital output.
RESOLUTION:
To resolve this issue, you may need to change the output setting from digital to analog in the Windows XP volume controls:
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Volume Control.
In Volume Control, on the Options menu, click Advanced Controls.
Click Advanced Options on the Play Control dialog box.
Click to clear the Digital Output Only check box, and then click Close.
NOTE: If you cleared the Digital Output Only check box before you udpated the driver, turn on the digital playback, and then test the audio playback. (In my case, I had to turn on the digital playback.)
