I have windows xp installation on my primary Master Hard disk with NTFS and seperate installation of Windows 98 SE on my secondary master harddisk with FAT32. Can I make this as dual boot from windows xp (both are fully function when they boot from any one hard disk) If any one can comment kindly send me an email or post a reply
Thanks & Regards

Hello Shajahan, You will have to go to folder options >> view and uncheck (Hide protected operating system files). Then go to Your local disk C >> boot.ini file. You can easily create your own boot menu that will appear when your system starts to boot by adding your own entry to the win xp pro 'boot ini file'. At present you should have somthing like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home" /fastdetect
(If you have XP PRO it will say Windows XP Professional instead of Windows XP Home)

you just need to add the following line

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 98se" /fastdetect

Just make a copy of your 'boot ini' first incase you need to restore it. Also creating a restore point would be a good idea.
Hope this helps. Regards

There is an easier way, go to osloader.com and download osloader and install this while in WInXP. This will find your other drives and MBR's ( hook that drive up as a slave) and will present you with a menu to chose which OS to boot from. I have used it that way for about 10 months and it works wonderfully.

Hey smokey I tried doing it that way and rebooted and it presented me with what option xp or 98 to choose from the only thing is that when I try to go into 98 it says this error.

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\system32\hal.dll

Please re-install a copy of the above file.

Not sure what to do now :( and thx to everyone thats helping. And not sure why it would say I have an missing or corrupt file I can unhook all the drives but the 98 and it will boot right up.
