I have an EIDE HD that I have 4 partitions on. I have WinXP Pro on C:
I want to install another copy of WinXP Pro on my newly installed SCSI Ultra160 HD (K:) (I also have 4 removable media drives) so that they will boot selectively and separately. I have Partition Magic 8 and Boot Magic installed on C:
The Partition Magic docs state that it will only install a separate OS to Drive 1 (C:, D:, E:, F:) in order to avoid 'problems' attempting to install on a separate drive (K:). Any ideas? I'm sure that some of you have been here before. TIA

Dont use the boot magic part of partition magic.
Boot from the win XP CD and run the install on the drive you want.
Windows XP has its own boot manager.

Hello
You can solve your dual boot problem easily.
All you have to do is amend your boot.ini file.
Now you should have something like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
If you want to create dual boot you will have to add new line. It will depend on what windows it is:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP - for XP
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 - for win 2000 and so on.
Also, you might have to make some changes to this line: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
If windows is on another harddrive then set RDISK to 1, or 2, or 3. If it's on another partition then change number too.

alex3182 is right but this won't work if you were to use 9x on one of the drives. Since you're using XP on both drives this will work fine.
I'm running XPPro on the master and XPHome on the slave. If I'm booted to XPHome then XPHome is C:. If I'm booted to XPPro then XPPro is C:. Its a little weird but you will get used to it.
I installed each operating system independently with only one drive in at a time.
You could also set your new drive as a slave and then install XP on it and XP will write your new boot files as it loads. But if you want to do it the way I did before I new this you can change the boot.ini file on the master drive.
This is a copy of mine:
[boot loader]
timeout=10
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home" /fastdetectIf you're using 2 copies of XPPro just call the one on the slave drive XPPro2.

Thanks for your prompt response. The reason I am putting 2 copies of WinXP Pro on the same machine but different drives is because I want to totally isolate "my" copy of the OS from the "other users" copy. They have loaded problematic software off of the web such as "Kazaa" that I want to have no access to "my" OS. Will setting the SCSI HD as "slave" accomplish this, or do I need to have a totally separate setup? TIA

Hello,
I am sure that everybody has their own way of doing this........let me tell you how I dual boot xp and xp. My wife has her own XP.
Install your first XP on C: drive. Then install Partition Magic 8.0. Then install Boot Magic. Make sure you make the floppy disk for BM. Then ask PM 8 to make you a new partition, a primary partition AFTER not before the first.This will also be a C: drive.If you install before the existing XP, the new XP will boot, the first will not, without modifications needed to get first xp running again. Make the new partition active and also label the new partition so that when you go to install the second XP you know which partition to setup onto.Actually I will first insert a floppy bootdisk first to make sure that I am on the correct primary partition and no files are on that C: drive, the reboot with the xp cd.After installing XP # 2 you will need the BM floppy to get back to your first xp, get into BM, make it active. Then every time that you go to boot up, BM gives you a choice of the two C: drives to boot into.......XP A or XP B, both on their very own C: drive. BootMagic 8.0, a $70 program, available via pricewatch.com for about $22. Also go to Powerquest

A lot of people do not like to use these products, for us they work great.

I am sorry guys.
I should have concentrated more on the question. My answer had nothing to do with your question.
I appologize.
See I almost got killed on a horse three days ago, so I am shook up.
The horse throws me out of the saddle and my foot got caught in the stirup
Man I am screaming for dear life and the horse would not slow down.
The only thing that saved my life was when the store manager ran out and unplugged it.
