Hi All,

I am using a dual boot (Win2000 and XP Pro – same partition) on my system and my question’s are:

1) Can I remove Win2000 ( I no longer use it) or am I asking for trouble ?
2) Can I safely remove the reference from the BOOT.INI: “multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT=”Microsoft 2000 Professional”=fast detect” ?
3) Can I also remove the folder WINNT from Local Drive “C:\”?
4) Is there anything else I should be aware of ?

Thanks from a scared to-do-it novice.

Lucky1, I'm no expert, there are better people posting in this forum. But your mistake, IMHO, was installing two OS's on the same partition. I personally would backup up needed/wanted data and start from scratch.

I agree with the above. If you want to try removing one of the OSes you should backup all your personal files at the very least. Of course, you should already have them backed up.

It is NEVER a good idea to install more than one OS per partition.

correct me if i am wrong, you said that u have win 2000 and
xp on the same partition( is it the same partition or the same
hard drive?).
If it is the same HDD, then each of the OS will need a
separate partition like C: for 2000 and D: for XP.
Considering the above is true then you can simply format the
partition with the OS you no longer to use.

If the case is not the same as stated above then please post
complete details of the partitions containing the OS's so that
it will give more clear idea.

When booting - I have a choice of opting to use either Win2000 or XP Pro.

Both are on the C:\ drive.

"Both are on the C:\ drive"

If you're 100% sure about that, the best thing to do would be to backup all your important files, make sure you have all the necessary device drivers, software, etc, then wipe the drive & start from scratch.

An easy way to tell would be to just right click My Computer and see what it says there. Every partition will show as a different drive!
