After cloning my old hard drive to a new one I now see dual boot screen which asks which OS to boot. Both listed as WINDOWS (Default). I tryed to edit the <boot.ini> but got an error saying Cannot create the c:\boot.ini file, Make sure that the path and filename are correct.
This is what the boot file looks like:
[boot loader]
timeout = 30
default =mulit(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows
[operating systems]BIOSTAR G965 Micro 775
Pentium 4 3.6GHz
Crucial Ballistix 2GB 800
Geforce 8600 GT

You need to edit the boot.ini's properties; Read-only is enabled and cannot be when you want to edit said file.

will talk you thru how to edit boot.ini...
But first... boot up as per normal; set default OS to boot via MyComputer\Properties\Advanced-tab\startup/shutdown - Settings...
Then proceed as in M$-KB...
Just be sure that the line you remove "is" the the one to go... This in case the two lines present - below default OS to boot entry are not in fact "identical"...

when i go into the boot.ini file through run i was not able to edit boot.ini. So i went into System Properties, then to Startup and Recovery and clicked edit. There I was able to edit the boot.ini file, not sure why?
Thank you very much for any responses, thats why I come here for pc advice/help.

You can only edit the boot.ini via a suitable text or similar programme editor (notepad/wordpad/even assorted versions of word...). Becomes a normal edit job - after-which you save the changes...
When you go via one of the several routes normally used to access/edit the boot.ini you are using the notepad programme to allow the edit job; it just gets opened up for you automatically.
