dual boot fail/ how boot to 2ndy

Boot to Secondary drive[WinXPPro] if the Primary drive[also WinXPPro] fails? How would I do this? Will I be able to use a copy of NTdetect.com,NTLDR to put on the Secondary drive also modifying the boot.ini to show only the secondary drive. Thus I would be back to a single OS booting from the secondary drive. Thus not having to load all the programs over.
