hi, i have a problem with my broadband connection.

im using a sagem 800pe dsl modem @512Kbs bandwidth.

the problem i'm having is that it keeps disconnecting, although the icon on my toolbar says its still connected.

i usually find this problem occurs when i leave my computer for an hour or so. when i'm working on it, i don't have the problem.

it's really annoying as i leave my computer on virtually all day to download movies, but when i get home, i notice that it has been disconnected for most of the time.

any ideas on this????

'if it aint broke, buy a new one anyway'

i had a customer with a similar problem. it didnt seem to be renewing the IP address when it was changing every few hours. all i did was hit start, run and typed

ipconfig /release (enter)
ipconfig /renew (enter)

and this seemed to fix the problem permanently. you could also try rebooting your modem.

I had a customer with the same problem - I did (among many other things) what Simon suggested, but to no avail.
The tech support people are idiots and were of no help.
The problem is currently unresolved.

A vague flicker of rememberence.......

There may be an option that auto disconnects if no key press within "?" mins.

Within properties of the modem?

But this is DSL, not DialUp...
Plus, for my problem at least, it was happening while he played "Scrabble" on Yahoo.
