Why did you format your HDD in the 1st place? Especially since you have no idea what you're doing?

The Dell wesite will have all the info you need to know about your hardware & drivers.

If your XP install has missed some hardware drivers, download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading, run a report, hardware related, HTML format. Post the information here for the hardware that you can't find drivers for.

It's a good day when you learn something

no need to install (stand alone), it just works.

Or, go to Dell's Support site and enter the Service Tag. You can then download the appropriate drivers for your system.

I'm more than willing to help...but you also have to be willing to help yourself. Why did you format? Formatting is the "last resort" when it comes to software problems...it should almost never be the 1st thing you try. Anyhow, it always helps to know the reason why it was done. If there's a hardware problem, formatting obviously wouldn't fix anything, but sometimes people mistake a hardware problem for a Windows problem, so they format the HDD & end up making a huge mess of things.

You're gonna have to download & install drivers for the motherboard chipset, video card, sound card, network card, modem, etc. All the drivers are available from Dell. But you have to know what hardware is installed in your XPS because there are several driver choices listed.

Here's the list of drivers based on your service tag:

http://support.dell.com/support/dow...

We can't tell you which ones to get because we don't know your hardware configuration.

Okay, forget about emailing me. Go to the link jam provided and click on the System Configuration on the left of the page. That will show you the Original hardware in your computer.

Although I'm wondering...if you reloaded the machine, why didn't you use the Blue Dell Reinstallation CD that came with the system?
